Job Description
About the Role
Airbnb is hiring a Product Manager to join its Relevance & Personalization (R&P) team — the group responsible for connecting guests to the right listings across every surface, and helping hosts compete and thrive in the marketplace. The team sits at the intersection of search ranking, recommendations, personalization, and generative AI, and is working toward a future where Airbnb feels less like a search engine and more like a knowledgeable travel companion that understands a guest's needs across their entire trip.
As PM for Relevance & Personalization, you'll help set strategy and drive execution for some of Airbnb's highest-leverage AI systems — owning the roadmap for how personalization works across the guest journey, and helping define how the feedback loop closes for hosts. You'll partner daily with ML engineers, applied researchers, and designers to ship systems that move bookings, satisfaction, and host success at global scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive the roadmap for Airbnb's relevance and personalization platform — from natural language query understanding to multi-turn, context-aware discovery experiences.
- Make prioritization calls balancing guest experience, host success, revenue, fairness, and overall marketplace health.
- Partner with ML engineers and applied researchers to shape model strategy, evaluation frameworks, and experimentation design.
- Align cross-functional partners — Guest, Host, MarTech, Trust & Safety, Customer Support — on shared goals and sequencing.
- Drive the "Tripcycle" vision: ensuring the personalization layer connects across the full trip lifecycle, from inspiration through post-trip.
- Design and oversee A/B experiments with rigorous metric design and long-term effect measurement.
- Translate complex technical tradeoffs into clear decisions for engineers and concise narratives for leadership.
- Stay close to guests and hosts — synthesizing user research, marketplace data, and competitive signals to sharpen strategy.
Requirements
- 10+ years of product management experience, including at least 3 years on ML, search, recommendations, or AI-powered products at scale.
- A track record of owning strategy and roadmap for technically complex systems — setting direction and making hard prioritization calls, not just managing features.
- Strong experimentation fluency: comfortable designing A/B tests, interpreting counterfactual results, and reasoning about proxy metrics vs. long-term outcomes.
- Experience on two-sided marketplaces or platforms, balancing supply-side and demand-side tradeoffs.
- Ability to earn the respect of Staff and Principal-level engineers and researchers — you don't need to write code, but you need to engage credibly.
- A clear, structured communicator who can distill technical tradeoffs for executives and translate strategy into guidance for engineers.
Preferred
- Experience with LLM-based products in production — ideally involving evaluation challenges, latency constraints, or safety/guardrail work.
- Familiarity with reinforcement learning, contextual bandits, or explore/exploit frameworks in a product context.
- Background working alongside applied researchers or teams that publish externally.
Job Benefits
- Quarterly Travel Credits — funds toward your own Airbnb stays.
- Annual Education Stipend — for courses, certifications, and professional development.
- Quarterly "Live and Work Anywhere" Allowance — supports flexible work setups.
- Health & Wellness coverage for employees and their families.
- Financial Well-Being programs, including equity eligibility for this role.
- Time Away & Flexibility — generous PTO and flexible scheduling.
- Family & Caregiving support benefits.
- Potential bonus and equity in addition to base salary ($232K–$282K range).
