Job Description
Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Sector is hiring a Product Manager to take ownership of a large, mission-critical software platform that keeps satellite ground-system missions running. This is not a typical backlog-and-roadmap product role - it blends technical product ownership, program management, and DevSecOps leadership, overseeing several scrum teams that build and operate a platform used across multiple government constellations. You will be the single point of accountability for cost, schedule, and technical delivery of the platform, while also shaping its long-term direction alongside engineering leads and government stakeholders. The work sits at the intersection of software delivery, cybersecurity, and systems integration, so the day-to-day mixes architecture reviews, Agile ceremonies, budget tracking, and customer briefings. It is a senior, high-visibility seat for someone who wants ownership over both the technical roadmap and the business side of a defense software program.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end roadmap and execution strategy for a software platform supporting satellite ground-system missions, translating program goals into concrete, team-level objectives
- Lead multiple scrum teams spanning software, DevSecOps, systems engineering, and integration & test, acting as the senior accountable product and program owner
- Manage the full program budget and schedule, applying Earned Value Management (EVM) and Cost Account Manager (CAM) principles to track spend, forecast cost trends, and report status to leadership
- Drive Agile delivery at scale using Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe, relying on Jira and Confluence to keep every team's work transparent and predictable
- Review architecture and design decisions, holding the team to rigorous standards from requirements through coding, testing, and integration
- Partner with Systems Engineering, Test, Operations, and government program representatives to resolve integration issues and keep priorities aligned across teams
- Oversee subcontractors supporting the DevOps infrastructure, including performance tracking, coordination, and delivery negotiation
- Mentor engineering leads, give regular performance feedback, and build a culture that keeps strong technical talent engaged and growing
- Brief program leadership, government customers, and contracting officers on technical status, risk, and direction
- Ensure every development activity holds to the security, quality, and configuration-management standards required in a classified program environment
Requirements
- Active SCI clearance, or an active Top Secret clearance with willingness and ability to obtain SCI before the start date
- 14+ years of full-lifecycle software development experience, spanning requirements, architecture, design, coding, unit testing, and integration support
- A proven record leading multiple Agile teams at the same time - roughly two to three teams totaling twenty to thirty engineers - delivering a shared product or platform
- Hands-on background with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices, including source control, build and deployment pipelines such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps, automated testing, and security scanning
- Working knowledge of platform engineering fundamentals, including infrastructure as code, observability, and reliability, sufficient to make informed prioritization calls
- Solid grounding in secure software development, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and vulnerability management
- Experience with security risk assessments or accreditation and ATO work inside a regulated or mission-critical environment
- Background in system integration and test strategy, including automated regression testing and verification and validation workflows
- Experience planning, approving, and executing releases into customer or production environments
- Deep, hands-on Agile fluency, with real working experience in Jira and Confluence for planning, tracking, and reporting
- A strong track record collaborating across Systems Engineering and software development disciplines
Preferred
- Active CompTIA Security+ and (ISC)2 CISSP certifications
- CAM (Control Account Manager) certification, or an Agile Earned Value credential
- Direct experience on satellite ground systems software
- Comfort reading and applying CAMEO or other MBSE models inside software design work
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and a major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- A track record of managing subcontractors on a technical program
- Active SCI clearance with polygraph
