Director, Product Management

Job Description

Coherent Corp. is a global leader in lasers, engineered materials, and networking components - a vertically integrated manufacturer serving industrial, optical communications, military, life sciences, semiconductor equipment, and consumer markets. This Director of Product Management role sits at the intersection of technical depth and business leadership, owning a full product portfolio from P&L to roadmap to customer engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Own P&L performance: drive revenue and gross margin, monitor sales and backlogs, set targets aligned to the 5-Year Plan
• Lead annual budgeting, 5-year planning, and R&D/CapEx investment roadmaps; measure and report ROIC on all associated investments
• Drive design wins by working with global sales channels, distributors, and product marketing to execute customer engagement plans
• Build and manage strong business and technical relationships at key customer accounts
• Translate customer requirements into profitable, manufacturable product offerings - standard and customized
• Work with Product Development teams to keep new products on schedule and on budget
• Support sales teams in maximizing bookings and revenues; review specs and pricing on winning proposals
• Own Product Life Cycle Management: prepare business cases for new development projects, monitor R&D metrics, manage portfolio impacts
• Oversee order fulfillment coordination - cost, lead time, on-time delivery, volumes, quality, and margin
• Drive ongoing cost-reduction activities; benchmark costs with Ops, NPI, supply chain, and contract manufacturers
• Monitor competitive landscape; develop sales collateral and support product launch marketing

Requirements

• BA/BS in Engineering required; MBA or MS/PhD in Engineering strongly preferred
• 10+ years of experience in Product Management or Engineering Leadership in materials or a related industry
• Deep understanding of high-speed optical transceivers and related technology
• Familiarity with hyperscale and switch/ASIC vendor ecosystems
• Proven track record of product management leadership with data-driven decision making
• Strong financial acumen: P&L, balance sheet, income statement
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills

Preferred

• MBA or advanced engineering degree
• Experience in multi-cultural, global team environments
• History of influencing stakeholders at all levels and delivering measurable business results
