Job Description
Expedia Group is hiring a Principal Product Manager to own the technology and strategy behind how the company talks to its customers. This is a senior individual-contributor seat sitting exactly where CRM, marketing technology, and applied AI meet โ shaping how raw customer data becomes smarter, better-timed, higher-performing messages across email, push, SMS, in-product prompts, transactional notices, and channels that haven't fully taken shape yet.
๐ This role is open in two locations: Seattle, WA and San Jose, CA. If you're open to either city, please state your preferred location clearly in the subject line of your application โ for example: "Principal PM, Comms & Intelligence โ Prefer: Seattle" or "Principal PM, Comms & Intelligence โ Prefer: San Jose."ย Or for San Jose apply via - https://careers.expediagroup.com/job/principal-product-manager-comms-amp-intelligence/san-jose-ca/R-110450/ link and for Seattle apply via the Apply button. Compensation differs by location (see Job Details).
You won't carry a formal management title, but you'll be expected to operate like one of the most senior voices in the building โ setting the direction for how Expedia Group turns behavioral and transactional signals into messages that actually move the business, while working closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, Analytics, Legal, and Privacy across the wider CRM and Communications portfolio.
This role sits inside a company that runs on data at serious scale โ hundreds of millions of travelers, dozens of consumer brands, and a communications footprint that touches nearly every stage of the booking journey. If you've been looking for a seat where AI-driven personalization decisions carry real, measurable weight, this is that seat.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the product vision and roadmap for communications intelligence โ audience insight, personalization models, channel and send-time optimization, and how performance gets measured across the board.
- Turn customer data into usable signal โ translating behavioral, transactional, and engagement data into the inputs that power journey orchestration and targeting decisions.
- Build with Data Science and Engineering to design and scale models for personalization, propensity scoring, and next-best-message or next-best-channel decisioning.
- Own the measurement backbone โ the experimentation and attribution framework that determines what actually gets prioritized and shipped.
- Champion responsible AI across every communications touchpoint, balancing automation and personalization against customer trust and data compliance.
- Act as the escalation point for the hard cross-team tradeoffs โ data quality, identity, consent, and model performance all land on your desk.
- Keep senior stakeholders aligned on priorities, surface risk early, and anchor every conversation to measurable engagement and business outcomes.
- Mentor other Product Managers on data-informed product craft and analytical rigor โ influence that comes from expertise, not a reporting line.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree with 12+ years of product management experience, or a master's degree with 10+ years โ or equivalent professional experience that gets you there.
- Meaningful senior or lead individual-contributor experience building data, analytics, or AI-driven products, not just supporting them.
- A real background in CRM, customer engagement, martech, or messaging/communications products โ this isn't a generalist PM seat.
- Working fluency in customer data, personalization, experimentation, attribution, and privacy/consent frameworks.
- Enough technical depth across APIs, data models, and ML/AI concepts to challenge and shape engineering decisions, not just approve them.
- Executive-level communication โ the ability to move senior stakeholders through data and argument rather than authority.
- A track record of using data and experimentation to drive measurable gains in customer engagement outcomes.
Preferred
- Experience scaling communications intelligence capabilities โ audience insight, journey orchestration, personalization, send-time optimization โ across multiple channels at once.
- Real depth in experimentation design, attribution, and measurement strategy for customer engagement products.
- History partnering with Data Science and Engineering to apply AI/ML models to real-world personalization, propensity, or targeting problems.
- A demonstrated record of operationalizing responsible AI adoption โ model performance, data quality, identity, privacy, and consent built in from the start, not bolted on.
- Proven ability to align Product, Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, Analytics, Legal, and Privacy stakeholders around one committed, defensible roadmap.
This is a rare Principal-level seat where the day-to-day work sits squarely at the intersection of CRM, applied AI, and customer trust โ built for a Product Manager who wants real influence without needing a management title to get it.
