About the Role

BlackRock's SMA Solutions team is looking for an Associate Product Manager to help shape the tools and workflows that power its Separately Managed Accounts business — a fast-growing corner of BlackRock that helps wealth advisors, family offices, and institutions build custom, tax-aware portfolios. This is a hands-on product role sitting at the intersection of investment operations, trading, and technology, and it's built for someone who wants real ownership early in their PM career rather than a purely observational rotation.

You'll work directly with Portfolio Management, Trading, Operations, and Engineering to untangle complex, high-stakes workflows and turn them into scalable systems. Expect a steep learning curve on how a large asset manager actually runs money day to day, paired with the kind of structured problem-solving that product management rewards.

Key Responsibilities

• Build deep working knowledge of how SMA Solutions handles portfolio management, trading, onboarding, servicing, and investment operations end to end.
• Collect and prioritize requirements from multiple stakeholders, weighing business value against risk, resourcing, and delivery timelines.
• Use data to shape practical, scalable product recommendations rather than one-off fixes.
• Partner with engineers, QA, end users, and outside vendors across the full build cycle.
• Support testing cycles, launch readiness, and post-launch iteration based on real usage.
• Take ownership of specific product and technical workstreams — from initial discovery through design, build, testing, and stabilization after launch.
• Coordinate the moving pieces between business stakeholders, Product, Engineering, and outside partners, and flag risk or slippage early rather than late.
• Put together clear, decision-ready materials so senior leaders can resolve open design or prioritization questions quickly.
• Track plans, dependencies, assumptions, and open questions across several workstreams at once.
• Use AI-assisted tools where appropriate to speed up analysis, documentation, and reporting.
• Help triage and root-cause issues that surface in a live trading environment, and turn recurring pain points into longer-term reliability fixes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Around 5 years in product management, business analysis, fintech, or a closely related field.
• Track record of turning messy operational or business problems into structured requirements a dev team can actually build against.
• Comfort mapping an end-to-end workflow, spotting the gaps in it, and proposing a realistic future state.
• Working familiarity with the software development lifecycle — agile delivery, testing, release readiness, and what happens after go-live.
• Experience running cross-functional initiatives that touch multiple teams, systems, or dependencies at once.
• Strong written and verbal communication — able to flex between engineers and non-technical business stakeholders in the same day.
• Solid organizational instincts; able to keep several priorities moving without dropping the details.
• Hands-on experience with delivery tooling such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence, or Airtable.
• Genuine interest in applying AI and automation to make product and delivery work faster.

Preferred

• Exposure to order-management, trading, portfolio-management, or investment-operations systems.
• Background in separately managed accounts, direct indexing, tax-aware investing, or portfolio management more broadly.
• Experience supporting teams spread across regions or multiple asset classes.
• Comfort writing SQL and working with databases.
• Prior experience keeping a production system stable in a time-sensitive setting.
